Port Macquarie Performing Arts invite local kids to participate in our new Creative Combo program. We want to share our love of dance, drama, singing and the arts with as many young people as possible!

This program brings qualified Dance, Drama, Singing and Visual Art educators together to give local kids a well rounded arts experience, with the convenience of one venue, one time and one afternoon a week. This lively, creative learning program will give your child the chance to explore all aspects of the arts in a fun, friendly learning environment!

Our Creative Combo Program consists of FOUR Creative Arts classes combined in one learning experience, one afternoon per week. Kids will make their way through a series of classes with a break in the middle for a snack and bathroom break.

Throughout the program, students will have the opportunity to learn dance, drama, singing and visual art with caring, passionate and qualified teachers who excel in each of these areas, giving all students a well rounded arts experience. In 2018, the Creative Combo class will run on Wednesdays from 4:30-6:30pm and a Junior Creative Combo class suitable for children that haven’t started school yet, will run on Tuesday mornings from 10:15-11:00am.

The Benefits of Creative Combo for young children

Improve Physical Health
The Arts include highly physical activities, and kids who partake in structured lessons regularly will see an improvement in their overall physical health. Learning dance and drama can increase your children’s  flexibility, range of motion, physical strength and stamina. The repetitive movements involved can improve muscle tone, correct poor posture, increase balance and coordination and improve overall cardiovascular health.

Socialisation Benefits
In addition to Creative Combo being a physical activity, it is also a highly social activity and the relationships built during these classes will be an important part of the process for our new students. The Arts can help children improve their social and communication skills, learn how to work as part of a team, develop a greater sense of trust and cooperation, and make new friends. It can also help to alleviate fears related to performing in front of an audience.

Skills for life
Learning through song, dance, drama and art helps children learn patience, listening and leadership skills as they start to help each other with learning and practising the work earns in class. They also learn to accept vulnerability; that it is okay not to be able to do everything first time and that you should feel confident enough to ask for help, either from the teacher or from another student. This Creative Combo program will help to spark creativity in young children and help them to develop an appreciation for the arts.

Learning through song
Singing together improves children’s behaviour. It helps them bond – whatever the song or language. They can express their feelings of joy or excitement, of being scared or proud. Musical activity involves many different parts of the brain, so singing (which involves music and language) helps develop these areas.   The study of the performing arts allows children to explore and express themselves freely. It helps a child develop a better understanding of themselves, both physically and mentally, as well as understanding others and the world around them. It encourages children to use their own imagination and ideas to organically grow and create.

Creative Combo is for everyone
Our lessons are structured to make all participants feel comfortable no matter what their experience level. They focus on imagination, creative movement and demonstration from our educators.

We look forward to sharing our love of the arts with you and your child.
